Assessment of Migratory Soaring Bird Mortality from Electric Transmission Grid in the Gulf of Suez Area

The main objectives of the current study were to:
1. Gain a preliminary assessment of the scale and nature of bird mortality due to interactions with the power transmission infrastructure in the Gulf of Suez region.
2. Help identify potential hot spots of risk in the region due to transmission infrastructure.
3. Provide initial differentiation in the nature of risk to birds along different segments of the power transmission network in the region. It is clear that achieving a full understanding of the risks that the power transmission network possess to birds in the region will need a lager sample size, both spatially and temporally, to provide more robust data and cover more potential variables in weather, topography, bird behavior, and location. Thus, the current study, which is amongst the first of its kind in the region, in the autumn season. NCE (Ezat 2019) provided results for a short pilot study in spring 2019.
